State Farm car insurance specialist was founded in 1922 as a mutual insurance company that insured a variety if things, from house to life, but was known for auto insurance. State Farm, however, specialized in insurance for farmers. The founder of State Farm believed that because farmers drove less and had fewer losses than regular drivers, he thought that farmers should have to pay less for insurance. This of course made him very popular with farmers and it helped him become a very rich man and his company took off. State Farm then began to insure people for banking and financial services as well. State Farm has grown and grown to become the most widely used and biggest insurance corporation in the United States and Canada. State Farm also has a popular little jingle that was written by a famous recording artist, there slogan of “Like a good neighbor State Farm is there” was written by Barry Manilow.

State Farm has well over 17,000 field agents out around the country with their own personal offices. Unlike companies like GEICO, Progressive, and E*Surance, all which do most of their work by phone or internet. State Farm is more of a face to face person to person kind of company. Being the largest company they can afford to do this unlike its competitors. State Farm also takes the advantage of not having to go to different places for all you insurance needs. At Stat Farm you can easily get you auto insurance, life insurance, house insurance, and financial insurance all in one company, saving you time and possibly lots of money. This has given State Farm a huge target, as now it doesn’t only compete with auto insurance companies it also is in competition with homeowner companies and life insurance companies and banks such as Bank of American and Chase.
Like most companies State Farm has fallen under major criticism and allegations. A CNN investigation showed that State Farm would not pay their injured customers a fair amount of money and would then threaten to make the lawsuit very time consuming and costly which would have no benefit for the victim. They also were accused of not paying out what was needed for the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. However none of these allegations were proven true and they just stayed allegations. Of course every major insurance company falls victim to things like this every once in a while.

State Farm has proven to be a powerhouse company and if they weren’t good enough then people wouldn’t use them. State Farm insures some 40 million vehicles in the U.S and Canada, State Farm isn’t being brought down by some little allegations and will be around for a long time.
